will dell shortly be refreshing their ultraportable line? something between the 300M (no optical drive=no good for me) and the 600M (which i found too heavy, with a flickering screen and poor build quality) would be nice. otherwise i guess its a fujitsu or an asus by me. i need to buy by end of june. the 300M has been around a loonnnggg time now and i can see the deals on it are pretty good right now suggesting something new may be on the way.

    any insights would be appreciated.

    thanks!

I don't know specifically if Dell will be refreshing the ultraportable line, and my guess is that they won't be releasing anything you're specifically looking for. However, June should be a month in which we see a new Inspiron or two released so maybe just stay tuned and wait until then!

I've heard that Dell won't have any new notebooks before the fall.

Considering that Dell just launched the inspiron XPS, 1000 and 9100, and removed the 8500 and 5100, don't hold your breath.
However expensive, Sony has an awesome ultraportable. It's about 3 or 4 pounds and includes a DVD/CD-RW drive with a 12.1" screen. Very cool.
