a bit of an odd problem. I got a M1210 last week, and it's been working well. However, I get no sound when I play DVDs on it, on mediadirect or windows media player. And yet when I use my videolan to watch dvds, I do get sound. Sound is fine everywhere else. Even using wmp to play video files.

I've tried downloading the critical sound drivers on the dell website to no avail.

    any ideas?

    thanks

Most likely your dvd decoder is not compatible with WMP or MD. I had a similar problem when I used Nero's decoder instead of Cyberlink PowerDVD. If you install Cyberlink PowerDVD, that should solve the problem. You don't have to use the software, but this will allow you to play DVDs in MD at least. It should also work for WMP.

thanks for your suggestion. However, my computer did not come with Cyberlink PowerDVD. it came with Sonic Cineplayer. I've tried reinstalling it too but still getting no sound. Are there any free DVD decoders I could download and use?

Yeah there are several free ones, but I think videolan is one of the best ones out there.

If you want Cyberlink, it is pretty easy to get. Contact Dell's Tech support and request it. We've had users before switch over to Cyberlink eventhough they got Sonic.

Honestly, I don't know if any other decoder will work with MediaDirect.
