vostro / inspiron lines are both made by compal. again i have no idea if its true or if its not.. i was told this after talking with a rep from a local company i deal with that i found out sells compal/sager systems to companies... they also said compal on systems like the ifl90 / 2090 are having many of the same issues dell is right now... i.e.. system noise on headphones and line outs, light bleeding etc.. again this is just simply a thought for those here so dont jump on me for it just stating what i was told.. it could be totally false..

Ive mentioned this in several other threads but Malausian factories all spit out systems for different manufacturers, many with very similar pasrts such as the Dell motherboard in the m1330 and so on.
One company deals with Dell, Apple, Acer, HP and another I cant remember right now.
So what you are saying is fully believable.
Many parts in your Dell or HP are identicale parts with no more than a hardware or software OEM stamp placed on it from the selling company. -
i was telling him about the issues everyone was having with the dell's and he said wow thats funny since we are having very similar problems with the 2090/ifl90's right now.. he said they have got a ton of them recently that had issues..

Probably, some of Dell's notebooks are made by Compal... but so what?
-
Yup, the 1500/1520's ODM is Compal. I believe the 1400/1420 was designed by Asus, though I don't know if it's manufactured by them or not.
-
I know about Compal but where are you getting that about Asus from?
I just don't feel like searching now that's way I'm asking.. -
yeah he was specifically talking about the 1500/1520 systems.. no biggie i was simply posting this due to all the problems with the 1520's and 1500's popping up..

A lot of the same OEMs that smaller resellers use manufacture the notebooks for HP, Dell, etc... From what I've been told by one of the OEMs we work with, they will receive an order from, say, Dell for X000 units with no branding ASAP. Because of failure rates, the OEM then takes that order with systems to Dell's specs and manufactures several hundred to several thousand more to their own, higher, standard. Any of these that are left over are given to the smaller resellers (the smaller resellers are also able to requisition systems beyond this "overbuild," of course).
This is one of the big reasons I trust smaller resellers more than I trust the big brands. -

Just to add my 2 cents, for many years Compal UK was the main repair center for HP Europe. They also supported other brands like Toshiba, Motion, Dell.
-
I've been a Sager user for years and they always had the problem with the headphone noise on some of their models also....
and as far as light bleed...you can find that on any brand... -
Compal manufactures the 1500/1520 and the 1700/1720 but does not design it, as Dell does that if I recall correctly. Same with the 1400/1420 which is manufactured by ASUS(Their only notebook contract right now since pretty much everyone terminated their contracts with ASUS heh). I remember reading it somewhere(probably Digitimes) but I don't think I can get a link to it since old articles are paid membership only.
As mentioned, so what of it? Though it's true they manufacture it, it's based on Dell who designs and tells them what to make of it, so they have no real control of the unit.) -
I don't think I have ever had a notebook that didn't have some level of system noise bleeding through the headphones (and the PC speakers). Except maybe my one notebook without a built-in microphone. Generally muting the mic fixed the noise-bleed, though.
not sure how true this is.. please dont jump on me but i was told today that the new dell
