hi, have ordered a vostro 1700 from dell on 25/11/2007 and they have yet to take payment from my card, so far they have delayed the estimated delivery date by a week to 10/12/2007 but no explanation as to why. is it usual for dell to not take the money for so long? could it be why the delivery date has been delayed?

did you include a part that said "might delay your shipment" ? this usually happens with certain screens or processors that dell has to order specifically to build the laptop...

they wont take the money until they are in production for the laptop. this is most likely what happened.

if your worried mate, contact your rep and ask them what is happening.

If you ordered online, then call customer service, and ask them whats happening

I can't be 100% sure but don't they hold off on charging your card until the order is about to ship? Doesn't make sense to have you making payments on something you don't have.
As for the delay, it may be due to back ordered parts. Your EDD is always subject to change. If there was an issue with your payment, they probably would have contacted you.

not in the UK! when I ordered my M1330 I tracked it online and it came up saying "we have located your order, but cant advise a status", so I called my rep and he told me it was a credit card problem!

99% of companies wont charge you till your order is ready to ship, but DELL aint like other companies! I'm guessing that having several million GBP in the bank for an extra week or so makes a few thousand GBP in interest!

well the dell rep has finally gotten back to me, apparently the delay is due to the screen, "There is a lead time on the 17" WUXGA(1900*1200) True life screen." grrr i thought dell was supposed to have been spending the last 2 years fixing these sorts of supply then piss off your customers problems, clearly its not working. also whats with the randomness of the spec changes and the cost changes, is anything consistent at dell?
