    notebook keeps shutting off

    please help, anyone know why my dell keeps shutting off but itself? ive drained out my labtop and everything seems fine and then its shuts off again.

    What type of notebook is it? What OS is it running? When did the problem start happening? How far does it actually get before it shuts down? Do the lights come on then it shuts down, does it make it into windows? Can you access the BIOS?

    its the inspiron m710 (had it only for 3 yrs) it happened once maybe a yr ago, reformated everything then recently a month ago just shut off while i was using it called dell. the rep told me to take my batteries out and press on the power botton to flush out everything.. it worked then now again, keeps shutting off out of nowhere then i cant turn it back on until i flush it out again... is it my battery? im running on windowns XP. THANKS

    It sounds like the thermal sensor is going off because it is getting too hot.
    Have you ever cleaned the fan out of dust since you've had it? If not, I would start to look there or maybe the fan itself has failed...
