I have been messing around with my new dell 1720 and have gotten 3270 in 3dmark06 with 510/497, stock was 2830. the temp in the test acording to fangui never got above 57 celsius with fan on high. What would be the best way to test the gpu under load for temp etc.
I think there is alot more left in the 8600gt, I just don't want to melt it in the process.
System Specs: core 2 duo 5450 1.66
80 gig 5400
1gig ram

get a good notebook cooler before you try and fry the thing.
Btw i heard that the 8600Gt makes for some very nice Fried Eggs. -
Can you actually permanently damage the card from OC'ing?
-
As long as you don't overclock it too far, you should be fine. The majority of damage coming from overclocked systems comes from when people also up the voltage going to the components.
To the OP: The core can go up a lot, as in mine. I've gotten it to 600MHz easily. I'm sure it can go higher. -
-
I will try to overclock the core more and leave the memory alone for now. I would be happy to get around 3600 3dmark06 score, since that is what the ddr3 asus g1 got stock, and my 1720 is only ddr2

What is your screen resolution?
-
Resolution was at the 3dmark06 basic standard resolution which is 1280x1024
I have improved my score to 3493 with 612/497 settings. It seems like the core can be clocked pretty high without major temp increases. -
Those benchmarks are affected by your RAM and CPU, right? So that is pretty good soncideirn gyou have a lower end CPU and only 1gb of RAM.
-
Edit: to the point that the 1gb ram and cpu won't bottleneck.
oclocked 8600gt 3270 3dmark06 in 1720
