    odd sounds coming out of my inspiron 1720 help!!!

    hey any help here would be much appreciated..thank you!!!
    i bought a inspiron 1720 a couple of months back and it still runs normally just every now and then it makes odd noises like its trying to connect to a dial up internet (the high pitched sounds u get when that happens..) it happens totally randomly but no more than once every 3/4 days or something and when it happens every other noise coming out of my laptop (music, games) stop it only lasts about 3 secs..any ideas on what it is?? if i should send it back???

    does it make that sound when you're not doing anything at all?

    if so, read up the thousand threads on the southbridge/cpu "whine" problem ;)

    If you believe you identified it properly as the typical modem negotiation noise, try as an experiment to disable the modem in the Device Manager and see if this helps. Maybe something is "touching" the modem? I know this can happen even with the modem not plugged: I ran the Dell's (or whoever's) modem test and the modem made its typical quacking sounds even though the line was not connected. Maybe you have some malware dialer that's trying to dial out...

    damn i forgot to add that i dont have a dial up connection i use wireless broadband...
