    ok well my warranty is up on my e1705
    and my cd drive is dead ,and its also very expensive to get a new internal cd drive for a laptop
    now what i need to know is ,is it possible to install xp from an external cd/dvd drive ,like have the computer boot from the external?

    yes, if you look at the Acer Travel Mate C100 for example it is one of the first tablet pc's it does not even have an internal cd drive. I have reformatted mine and installed windows a few times (from the external drive) and it worked fine. Just get a drive that plugs into a usb. It's a cheap way to have your laptop working and have a usable cd drive. That's what i would do man.
