Well, I just got my Vostro 1500 today. There is a light bleed on the bottom of my Vostro 1500...It's not that bad compared to other pictures posted here, but it's bad enough to be noticed. My screen ID is LPLCC00. I'm not sure what LCD manufacture made it.
Now..the question...What should I do? I don't want to send my laptop back...I waited too long to get it. Is it possible to just ask them to send me the LCD screen and do it myself? Is there any posts/links that teaches us how to change the LCD panel?
Also, I didn't buy any extra warranty...(I'm very careful with my stuff..) But I heard there's some 30 day return policy?

I think you get 90 day limited warranty. If the screen really bothers you call Dell/contact Dell and ask if they can send you a replacement screen. They shouldn't give you a hassle.
-
thats a lg screen. they will send you a whole new one if you ask thats what i did BUT I DOUBT it will solve any of our problems. it seems just about every 1500 is going to have this prolem . im debating if i should look elsewhere..
-
Thanks for the info. That's exactly what I might do. I don't want to risk getting another laptop with bigger problems.
Is there any threads/links where I can learn how to replace the LCD screen? -
its not as easy as some make it to be.. and remember if you attempt to replace it then dell no longer will warranty that .. once YOU take it apart according to dell from all my talks with them today it will void the warranty unless you have a certified tech do it for you.. i know i dont want some guy opening up a 3 day old unit ... imo

hey Zfactor,
How bad is your light bleed? Here's how my light bleed looks...
In the sunlight (which makes it worse): http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/877/pict3588px7.jpg
and in the complete dark: http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/1518/pict3593tp8.jpg
Please keep in mind that the pictures kind of makes the light bleed look worse. In addition to the light bleed problem, I also have a grainy LCD (another reason to change LCD)
When you get the LCD replacement, can you make a tutoral on how to replace the LCD panel?
Thanks! -
My Vostro 1500 doesn't seem to have any bleed or grainyness. It's the LG model.

It's luck of the draw. And you have to remember, more of the ppl who will be posting will be posting complaints while less of those who don't have issues w/ their screen will post. I'm sure many of the screens are just fine.
-
great...just my luck.....
I also read on some other thread that it doesn't really matter what manufacture the LCD is from...some might also have the light bleed problem. -
my and others screens are wayyyyyy worse than your is..
-
ok...I guess I have a little bit of luck...but not lucky enough to get a almost-perfect laptop.
So zfactor, are you going to replace the LCD screen yourself? I don't really want to risk getting my laptop warranty voided though. -
no they are sending me a new replacment, and yeah i know how you feel im sick about this.. i expected a unit as good (or better) than our ones we bought for our business for like 400$ but this has a much worse screen than those do...
-
ok...I just called dell...They are shipping me a box to send the laptop back. The dell rep. also said that they will not be replacing my laptop, but they'll just swap the LCD panel. They also promised to check that the new LCD panel won't have any problems.....
Is that basically what you did to your laptop? -
no they are sending me a whole new unit.. i will not let them touch mine after hearing how bad they have come back after repair.. ive been reading horror stories on here about their repair dept..
-
oh great...my laptop is going into repair. It can't be that bad?
-
I have a "good" LG screen.
But, I just discovered that FN & sleep doesn't work. I also have the earplug interference problem. But, that's about it with the problems. (Are we all nuts, considering ourselves LUCKY when our notebooks only have 4 or less of the 8 or so problems with this notebook??? I went nuts when a meaningless rubber bumper fell off the lid of my otherwise problem-free HP TX1000!!! Maybe I'm mellowing out.) -
FN? Is that the top row of (F1, F2, F3)? I don't think the numberlock is working on my laptop. When I turn on the numberlock and try to use the number key board, it only types up letters, not numbers. Am I doing something wrong? or is it the computer?
-
FN key is the blue key at the bottom left side of the keyboard besides the control key. You have to keep the button pressed down while using the number pad keys.
ok so....poor quality laptop screen...now what?
