is it covered under my warranty? I purchased a 2 year, next day business warranty. Is it cover? How do I go about getting it fixed? Sorry if this is a newb question, but this is my first laptop. Thanks

Yes, if you still have warranty, call technical support. If you're past warranty there is an out of warranty repair service and there is a spare parts department where you could order the parts you need if you want to install yourself.

It should be, just give Dell a call and say one of your keys popped off for no reason. They'll probably send you a new keyboard through the mail.

Really? What were you trying to do? It is extremely hard to pop a key and break it. You'll have a tough time explaining to Dell what you did!

Dell sent me new keyboard under warranty. The keys have corners that can catch a finger and pop off. My WASD keys take a ponding ;)

Dell will send you instructions and a tool for removing and replacing keyboard.

the R key on my first XPS M1530 just popped off while I was typing normally. It was very strange. A tiny metal post on the keyboard frame had snapped inexplicably. Dell sent me a new keyboard next day. I also noticed several other keys appeared to be loose. I think there was something defective with that keyboard or it had been dropped before assembly or something.
