i have centrino duo core t2400 on my e1505, but when i look in task manager i see it monitoring only 1 core, and notebook hardware control is also showing me one core....I have not noticed any slowness or anything like that. is there some setting i have to change in bios? when i checked in bios it says that dual core is present...

Are you absolutely your computer has a duo core? Maybe it has the Solo even though you ordered, or *though* you ordered the Duo. Contact the manufactorer.

I am 100% sure that it is a dual core cpu...in BIOS it shows that dual core is present, and in device manager it shows two t2400 cpus under processors...I have XP Home btw...does that ake a difference?

well im sure xp home doesnt have smp, but i've used both xp home and xp pro on this one and so far the only difference in performance i've noticed is that the task manager has both cpus on the display lol, so i dont think it matters to much :)

XP home recognizes Dual cores. Have you done any odd things to the task manager?

ok so what you are telling me is that xp home will not show both cores in task manager? does this mean that dual core is not being utilized with xp home? you are right about performance though, cuz I also have an hp laptop with same processor running xp pro, and I notice no performance difference

Hmm, You can disable dual-core in the BIOS so might want to check that it's not.

Also, Windows XP Home Edition does not suppot multi-processors. Dual-core processors are not mutli-processors, they're one processor with two seperate physical cores.

I do not have dual core disabled in BIOS.....I dunno why device manager sees two cpus but task manager only shows one. My laptop isnt running slow or anything, so I guess it doesnt matter really.

Mine had the same thing and I am using xp home with Media Edition. Go into task manager click on view, then click on cpu history, then click one graph per cpu. Does this help?

one graph per cpu is already selected...there are no other options that I can select. I might try reformatting and installing xp pro if I notice that this is causing any major problems...but for right now Im fine with it.

You should really contact Dell by now, maybe one of the cores is failing to work?

i doubt the second core has gone bad because device manager shows it, and I used dell diagnostic and it recognizes both processors and they passed all tests. I did some searching on dell forum and i found this: http://forums.us.dell.com/supportfo...eneral&message.id=48263&query.id=20163#M48263

the problem seems to be similar to mine. one thing to note is that I had received a new self install hard drive from dell, and it installed windows and all software/bloatware automatically when I inserted the hard drive. i think something might have gone wrong with the windows installation.

Can you post a screenshot? I have the same issue, not seeing 2 cores in task manager, but seeing the 2 in device manager.

Im not the most technically literate. Can you tell me where you see multicore in bios, and how you disabled it, and how you enabled support once you restarted? I want to try it when I get home to see if it will fix my issue as well. Thanks!

First thing you have to press f12 when the dell logo shows and starts loading. Then you have some options, select "Bios Setup". When you are in Bios, scroll down to the "Performance" section and expand it. You should see "Multi Core Support" as one of the sub-headings. On right side there should be two options, Off or Enabled. Since mine was already enabled, I set it to "Off" and exited Bios. When windows started, it said found new hardware and it changed the computer to ASPI Unicore, and prompted me to restart. After I restarted, I turned off laptop and went back into Bios. Then I changed the setting for Multi Core Support from Off to "Enabled". Save and exit, and then windows should load with found new hardware again, but this time it shows "ASPI Multicore". I restarted again, and when I checked task manager I could see a graph for each processor.
