Looking to buy a new laptop soon from Dell and wondered if calling sales is any better than configuring the laptop online and applying a coupon. Essentially I'm awaiting the launch of the new Inspiron 17" line but was curious what others experienced when they bought theirs. Thanks ahead of time for replies :D

They can not really give you any different of a deal than you see online already.

    actually i disagree, my experience:

I configured a laptop online. tried applying a coupon that i found somewhere, the coupon worked but didnt subtract from the price of the laptop, I guess it didnt apply to what I was buying. The thing is .. according to the coupon discription it did apply.

so I called dell, got the guy to give me a $50 discount first. just let him walk you through every upgrade, and ask if he can give it to for cheaper. then after that i got him to apply the coupon. first he told me its only for inspirons, my purchase wasnt big enough etc.. 3 minutes of insisting got him to apply it.

    15 minutes = $100 saved :)

call them, u got nothing to lose

edit, hint: call them and tell them ur just shopping, dont give the sales rep the impression that u already decided to buy the laptop

You will have a much better chance at getting a CSR to work with you on the price than you would configuring online where the price is absolute.

Even if they don't give you a better deal on the notebook, they can give you a free upgrade to 1 day shipping most of the time.. That is a minimum of 50 bucks..

In the end i got her to give me the 40% off deal that had been goin around and got her to give me 4 yrs + 4 yr complete coverage with 2 yr lojack!. Cost me a total of about $980. I was SO Psyched!

See what you want online, add it to your cart, call, email cart to rep, and ask to work on the price. You may be able to get a better price, but you may also have to keep calling back and talking to different reps.

If you work for a company or go to a school that has a large number of Dell computers, I would approach the IT coordinator and ask them if they have a designated sales rep at Dell. Then call up that sales rep and mention that you work at that company/corporation and watch the magic happen. I was able to get a tremnedous deal (about 30% cheaper than the web price plus additional coupons) for the systems I have purchased.

My experience is that calling makes it cheaper..

I configured a laptop online just like how it is in my sig, and it was $1350 and change, but then I called and give them my order number, after 2 hours of talking to her, she told me that because I live in Hawaii, I only have 1 shipping option, which is the next day air, so I told her thats really sad that dell has to charge me next day air and I can't get regular shipping for free, and she decided to give me free next day air shipping.. And finally, she gave me another discount, and the final price came out to be $1283.48 after tax and free next day air shipping, I'm stoked :)
