any questions ask away and i'll do what i can to answer them for you. i work tech support, so try to limit the order and sales questions, they tell us the same as you, glass shortage and the coloring process is holding things up.

It's nice to have company insider's on the forums! Say, can you just give us a direct number to call you at work so everyone here at NBR has a guy to go to
Congrats on the purchase, that's a great deal. And glad to hear you got "his" and "hers" colors and didn't go for the matching thing. -
yea, we could use some tech support lol. here is my first question... i have a vostro 1400 and i heard that the xd card doesnt fit. i just bought one recently and i dont want to try it out beceause i heard that it might get stuck. lol any ideas? =D thanks
-
the build quality of the vostro 1500 imo is not that great... just a fyi
-
Nice. Since you work for tech support, what would you recommend doing for headphone jack distortion?
-
thevjm i can honestly say i have no whine from mine..
-
the vostro 1400 as far as i know, is exactly like the 1420. the fit of the sdcard should be the same. i honestly havent heard of any issues about it till you brought it up, but again, i work in the consumer line -
i have a "bump" if you will call it in my touchpad... lol yes it feels like a piece if dirt does under paint on a car sorta.. what should i do??
my battery is very loose and rattles as well.. any thoughts?? thanks in advance -
Send it back ... there's obviously a piece of debris under the paint!
-
Here's the thread made about the headphone jack distortion. My replacement comes tomorrow, so hopefully the problem was fixed.
-
dunno what to say about the battery, havent heard anything official yet. but it wouldnt hurt to call in and complain about it rattling and you not being happy about it. i'm not even sure if the loose battery is an "issue" or just a crappy build quality. -
Easy question: My replacement is coming tomorrow via FedEx. Do they leave a pre-paid package for me, or do they collect my defective notebook?
-
you'll put the old one in the box the new one comes with, and the new one SHOULD come with a pre paid return label you put on the box to ship it off to us -
think u can engrave something cool on to my palmrest?
hahaha or even draw a happy face on my black top
^^
-
For me the problem was not serious enough to gripe about and to contact Dell. If I have another problem in the future, I'll have them fix the loose battery issue also.
But I wonder if it is the notebook or the actual battery that is the problem. If its just the battery, then maybe dell can just send me a new battery that is a better size? -
Heh, so you work for Dell but when you are not working you like to do what you would do at your job and answers peoples questions, lol
You must enjoy your job.
So is there anyway that I could use your 10% off employe discount, I am about to order a 1520. Also This guy is telling me he works for a dell kiosk and that he can get me more of a discount. He didnt say anything about it being his employee discount.....I know this falls under sales, but any thoughts? -
hi
i just want to know if you have any tips and effective ways on getting a good concession from an employee( eg ram upgrades, ms office 07)i mean if you know what can push the employees further to help. thanks in advance -
-
no seriously.
every quarter we get one time use coupons that are good for that quarter only. so i get a 10% off coupon /15% refurb every quarter. -
i dont give out free stuff unless you've had a **** ton of issues with your system.
me personally, if you're having lots of problems over and over, and we have to replace another part(after 2 or 3 other parts were replaced) i'll upgrade that. be it a bigger/faster harddrive, bigger stick of ram, etc. i dont do it often.
sorry, but cant really tell you what would help, its all up to the person you get on the phone usually. but just a tip, dont keep calling in asking for stuff, because we do keep records of all calls and you wouldnt believe how many people call in each day asking for a new system because their verizon mobile broadband account is slow...(as an example, which did actually happen) -
oh, and for an update on my order.
my brown 1420 should ship august 31st
the pink 1420 should ship sept. 16th

Although i don't need tech support at the moment im happy to know theres people like you kicking about to ask questions on this forum. -
-
why do all the stinking screens bleed.. tell them a TON of people have this issue and it sucks...
-
and no, i cant answer about any of the delay questions, because like i said, i work support and dont have different info on the delays.
i could care less about the attention, i figured if someone had a question that i could answer i would help out. i'm not going to sit here and act like i'm a god because i work for dell, its a job, i dont plan on staying there forever, in fact i'm just waiting till i finish school so i can get into law enforcement in case you wanted to know anymore about me.
-
-
hey oc I have a few question,
If I'm getting my laptop sent in to be "repaired" only for the light bleed and I have other issues with the computer (CPU wine/head jack noise) should I just call back again and tell them about the problem?
The tech guy said that they were only going to change the LCD panel. He also promised me that the LCD panel would be fine before shipped back to me...will that actually happen?
Also, what's the chance of getting a dell tech/rep. guy from the US? The dell tech guy that I talked to today seemed like he didn't really know how to speak English that well. -
-
if the notebook is being sent in to depot to be repaired, they are SUPPOSED to go through everything and make sure everything is working correctly, but i would still go ahead and call back in to have them put in the notes the other issues you're having and want fixed. they'll put that in the case notes and then the techs at the repair station will see what to concentrate on.
the lcd should be replaced, i'm not positive if they will check extensively for any bleeding, but it will be replaced for sure. -
-
can you help with re formating 1720 and clean install? or any guidelines?
-
you'll need to format the c: drive and reinstall windows to it. if you need anymore help, call support -
i think that is for Vista home . i am gonna get Vista Biz both are same ? anyways thanks a lot
+rep added
-
thanks for the info. I'll call them tomorrow.
Also, what's the difference between the premier warranty and the depot warranty? I called the first time, and the first tech. said he couldn't do anything about my problems because I have the premier warranty. He gave me this phone number which didn't work, so I called again and the second dell tech. said I had a depot warranty. weird... -
no questions here.. just wanted to say, welcome to the NBR forum!
-
Quite an interesting thread. Welcome to the NBR forum! BTW If you have any friends over at the sales departments send them over here. I'm sure he'll be well treated from rest of us!

I have a request, would you please check my posting "some pictures from overheating Dell X1" I would like to know if you have ever came across such cases specially an X1.
Thank you -
This isnt so much a tech issue but I guess a cosmetic/build quality issue.
On all laptops, there's that "lip" on the laptop lid that goes horizontally across. It basically is the edge of the laptop cover behind the built-in webcam. Well mine is loose and it doesnt lay perfectly flush to the rest of the lid. It almost reminds me of material that's been warped and has lost its shape. I dont even know how Dell holds that piece in place, whether it's glued on or if it just snaps in. It looks like shoddy craftsmanship, so I was wondering what's the best way to get that fixed without sending it back in.
Any suggestions?
ordered two 1420's (dell employee)
