Ive heard that when your using the laptop at home, and have it plugged in, its "recommended" to take out the battery so that you dont "over charge" it.
I was looking into the Asus z81sp and it has a "battery off" switch on the side of the laptop just for this reason.
Will keeping my 9300 plugged in with a full battery charge lessen the life of the battery (or over time, will it decrease its useful life, other than for natural reasons).
Does dell have any protection hardware that keeps the battery from charging when its at max and still plugged in?

You might want to check out this thread about battery maintanence.

I leave my battery in my laptop at all times, and use the power brick about half of the time I use my laptop which is anywhere from 12 to 20 hours a day. I really haven't notice any changes in my battery life.
I'm not sure if there is any software to protect it or not. I haven't heard of any.

thats a really good question, i've heard the same thing before too.

That's an interesting concern and the first time i've heard of that actually. Would be nice to know a definate answer. I haven't heard any downfalls of leaving the battery in/on while running on A/C power, however, that is a legitimate question.
I have heard though, and it is recommended in order prolong the life and health of your A/C brick and battery NOT to use the laptop WHILE the battery is being charged. One will notice that the A/C brick becomes very warm when doing this. It is best to charge the battery fully (once it is empty) and then use the laptop on either battery power or A/C power (plugged in). < This is where your concern comes into play. -
I really don't know the answer. IMO, if leaving the battery in the notebook 24/7 cause any damage, I would think it is minimal and the user won't notice it much.

I have also heaerd that leaving your laptop pluggede in all the time can have damaging effects to the battery over time i did see that the battery life of the 6cell is apprx 500 charge/discahrges which is pretty pathetic wouldnt u say?

Not really. 500 is typical for a lithium ion.
