I'm having trouble with my Vostro 1000. There seems to be a phantom key stroke event occurring. iI seems that always is sending a key pressed signal therefore most of the time i can't test screensavers, and some of the programs being run, have a drop down menu that's always being pulled down without it being asked to. I was wondering if there is a fix to this or is it just my computer?

    Thanks

You may try to press the button continuously for releasing it in case it stuck. If that doesn't help, I do recommended you to get into the safe mode (F8 before getting to windows bootloader) and see if this is still happened. If so, that's definitely key stuck. If not, there must be something else.

1 - the keyboard is the same as the $1500 xps systems
2 - has nothing to do with a vostro 1000 ... probably specific to this one computer

yeah....it's not a stuck key....just a random key stroke which is occurring. It's not visible when typing.
I've cleaned the machine for spyware and viruses. I've seen other people have this problem...and yes it has occurred on the more expensive models.

I talked to dell and they suggested i look into unseating the keyboard cable. I'll see how that goes.

Only way to update the "keyboard cable" is to replace the entire keyboard.

So Khris is right...just finished talking to Dell and they are shipping me a new keyboard. Hopefully it will work.

    Thanks for your input guys
