The amount of leakage seems pretty normal to me. Its like that only on the bottom edge, right?
-
yes, correct its mostly on the bottem but there is a little in the middle you cant see in the pictures. glad to hear its normal, and i think its is getting better. its kind of getting to me because i keep looking at it.
-
yeah, all mfrs put a fluorescent light there towards the bottom of the screen so it's far and away the area you'll get the most light leakage (even though the light should be spread evenly if it's a perfect screen) Qwester is right, it's not too bad but I can see it'd still be annoying the amount you're getting there.

I've never seeing such leakage on IBM or Toshiba screens.
-
i will have the wuxga screen 9300 in a couple days and ill post pics of comparisons. i will also take requests.
please dont judge the wxga+ 9300 by these pics alone beause it still looks pretty good. the leakage really stands out on doom 3 because its so dark and i didnt notice it on gta san andreas. like i said earlier i think the leakage is getting better though (ive had it for like 4 days now).
i still think the 9300 is the sh*t! :dell: -
Right, you'll notice it most on black backgrounds and probably not at all on anyhting else.
-
Actually that's pretty normal on a lot of systems. Especially on something as black as that WinXP splash screen. Once you're into the OS or working or playing a game, you won't notice it. If the leakage goes into half of your screen (similar to many 14" glossy wxga's), then you'll be like "whoa! my problem was nothing!"

There is light leakage on mine and I have the truelife. I haven't watched a movie yet, but I did watch this dell experience movie thing and I could see it at the bottom. It really doesn't bother me because it isn't really bright. I think I can deal with it. I don't see the sparkle effect on it either. It is just a great pc and I haven't found anything really bothersome yet.
Like madmike said, you can really only notice it when the screen is black. The rest of the time it is unnoticable. -
i watched some movies and i can't really c any leakage on mine
-
I don't ever notice mine except when booting up. Even when my desktop is dark, I can barely see it, and mine is on all sides.
-
I'll get some pics on how it looks on a fujitsu. But I guess the larger the screen the larger the light source and hence the more the leakage.
Should have the pics up in a few hrs. -
First 5 pics are at 5/8 brightness which is what I use all the time for internet / office / games / DVDs since it is more than enough.
Remaining 5 are at max brightness (8/8) (in the second post, because I cannot attach more than 5 pics)
-
at 8/8 brightness!

My 9300 WUXGA screen also has light leakage. In movies, I can see it when it's widescreen and there's those black bars on the top and bottom. (Side question: shouldn't widescreen movies fit on widescreen monitors without the top and bottom bars?) But unless I'm concentrating on it, I don't really notice. My mind likely filters it out. It's like in movie theaters. It's not really dark, they have stairway lights and exit lights and everything but you generally don't even realize it 99% of the time.
It's not like it's a permanent red pixel or something which would be very irritating. It's just a gradual, faint lighting. -
Jhyphi you get bars because your screen is 16:10 (do the math) while most DVDs are 16:9 which is the usual widescreen aspect for TVs. BTW there are some manufacturers that use 16:9 LCDs on laptops, but very few!
-
how come wen i watch sum videos...not DVDs tho...i get black bars on the left and rite sides..but not on the top and bottom??...i thought it was a problem wit my windows media player and VLC player...but wen i put in a DVD..the bars were only on the top and bottom
-
LuckMC11, I think your videos are standard resolution 4:3, so you get bars on sides. but dvds which are wide aspect (16:9), you get bars on top and bottom because your screen is 16:10
BTW, talking about media player. I noticed when I play DVDs thru it I get bars from all four sides. But the same DVD played thru WINDVD displays bars on top and bottom only as it is supposed ... I find that a bit weird. Never tried to fix that cause I always use WINDVD, which also plays my MPEGs -
I noticed the same thing. Its just weird. I've also noticed that on Dell systems you can't use Nero as a dvd decoder because it screws up the sound (no idea why).
Qwester, I'm surprised that you have windows on your fujitsu. Judging by your signature and Baby Tux, I would have bet that you had Linux -
. I can never throw away windows as long as I need it for some gaming ... bummer ...
heeeeyyyy why don't we have a sign for linux with a penguin holding it up... ok just use your imagination :base:
-
lol, well that explains everything. I'm giving up linux for the year, but i do agree...we need a little penguin. Tux is so cute

i just got the wuxga 9300 and love it. there is a little leakage only at the bottem but not as bad as the wxga+. the blacks are deeper.
i even like 1400x900 on the wuxga better. it makes the fonts a little fatter. its not as sharp but not really that noticable to me (kinda seems like AA is on).
there our no dead pixals, and i dont even notice that sparkle thing. the glare isnt as bad as i thought it would be also.
im definately returning the wxga+ 9300. -
that's great man...but i still wouldn't give up my 9300 WXGA for a WUXGA
-
I'm actually thinking about buying a truelife screen and installing it myself...I'm tired of the WXGA...the offwhite is driving me nutz.
-
I received my 9300 with similar light leakage to the one pictured, but mine is on the bottom and the top, as if I have two flourescent lights on. It annoys me a bit because it seems to lead to color fade. I've put a call in to Dell and they are supposed to come out. Am I just spinning wheels? I want this computer to be as perfect as I can get it.
BTW, I have the WUXGA Truelife screen. -
Parnassian,
i feel the same way...we paid over a 1000 bucks. the pics were from my wxga+ 9300. the wuxga 9300 i replaced it with doesnt have light leakage half as bad as the ones pictured. i say go for it and get dell to replace yours its free (well you paid for the warranty). -
Yeah, I've been waiting for the appointment for days now. I've a call in to Dell Executive Support because I'm so ticked off about that runaround. I'm having it replaced, but someone just told me that my x300 card isn't upgradeable later, which is contrary to what the Dell salesperson told me! UGH. I'm not sure it'll matter for a non-gamer, but I am a little concerned as I work with photos and CAD programs.

How can you be sure the new one has less light leakage and no dead pixels? Or is it just a risk you take hoping the new one is better.
