hello i just placed a order on the 700m. its a Processor 755(2GHz/400MHz FSB) 12.1-in WXGA and has Memory 512MB DDR SDRAM 2 Dimms. i didnt get the 8 cell battery though. do you guys think that getting a replacement of 8 cell battery instead of 4 cell is worth it? i will be taking the notebook to class(im in college) so i might have to use the notebook for long periods of time(3-4 hours). what do you think?

    thanks for any inputs

I have had my 700m for a week now and it does go through the smaller battery very quickly. Anything over two hours is a bonus so I am thinking of getting the larger battery. They are available on eBay.

B33B What do you think of the WXGA resolution? I have a friend who I was helping configure for a Dell 700m but then aborted when I saw only WXGA was available. I thought that there were higher screen resolutions (at least WSXGA).

    mikal,
Definitely would have gotten the 8 cell, man! Didn't you read the reviews? 1.5 to 2 hrs for the standard battery. That battery life is pathetic. I would have gotten two 8 cell primary batteries. Change it. Change it before it's too l-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-te!!!

Make sure it is a Dell branded battery and buy from a reputable seller. If you can find the Dell part number, you might be able to get it cheaper on Pricegrabber. Sometimes ebay's shipping charges are high.

Screen resolution seems fine as long as you don't mind the tiny print. I normally use reading glasses but don't need them at full brightness Don't play a lot of DVDs on it but tried one and thought it looked great. I would try a Dell Kiosk location and bring whatever you want to view. Overall size was my main concern and I have been pleased with everything so far.

Did call Dell yesterday to see if I could get the 8 cell at the order price (rcvd 2/25) but they said it was $199. Some of the eBay listings show the Dell box but I don't know how long they have been sitting around. Perhaps old stock that Dell sold off? May just wait for a sale.
