im a keen reader of ebooks . i turn my dell xps m1530 to sideways and put it in desk with screen in left side . does this cause any problem to hdd.

if it does problem is there a way to load OS completely to RAM and turn HDD OFF (not standby i mean power off).

Generally it's fine. You need to watch out for blocking any airflow ports more than anything else. I did read somewhere that moving a hardrive when its spinning is generally dangerous. I think it should be fine as I have never heard any problems who read from their laptop like a book. But dont put pressure on the lcd hinges much or block the air vents.
As it is a DELL it probably underwent some fairly rigorous testing for real-world user experience (dropping it, spilling stuff on it, spinning :D etc). So i think it should be fine comparing to the external hdd enclosures which can be oriented as vertical or horizontal. Hardware-wise LCD, HDD, DVD/CD etc shud'nt care much about their own orientation unless they are subjected to only 1G Earth gravity.

As long as you are moving it gently (as opposed to shaking it vigorously), it should be fine.

Remember that iPods have hard-drives in them, and they function fine in an environment which includes a lot of movement.

If you use Linux, I can thoroughly recommend FBReader. It has an icon for switching orientation, and lots of options for customizing the format.

As posted by other user, it will be fine, just ensure you monitor the temp of CPU/HD to ensure it does not run too hot.

Try speedFan, I use it on my desktop, but I think it will work with laptops also.

No, the hard drive will be just fine sideways. Hard drives just don't like to be dropped and banged around.
