Just got my studio 17 yesterday.

When I open it up with a finger or thumb near the center of the screen by the webcam I sometimes hear a small popping sound. Sort of sounds like something is popping back into place. It does not happen all the time. If I open from the side there is no sound

    Anybody else experience this?

If you're talking about the same thing that happens to me, then it's the display frame coming separated from the lid. So far, it's only ever happened on the right side of my display; the top and left side have never popped. It's pretty easy to put back in place with a little squeeze. If I hadn't looked for it, I probably never would have noticed. :p

I think it comes apart due to the slight flex in the display when you open it.

That's what I think it is the display frame near the web cam

I was going to e-mail dell tech support about it tonight. Maybe it would be better to wait and if it falls off I may get a new display down the road.
I have a 4 year warranty. and wouldn't mind a new screen a year from now.

Your not going to alert Dell about this?

As it is, it's not a big enough issue to justify sending my notebook away to Dell for a few days. Perhaps later when I have more time, I'll send in for a replacement display frame, but for now it's in no danger of coming off entirely.

And if Dell does replace your frame, I can almost guarantee that they won't replace the display, unless the display itself has problems as well.
