i just got my vostro 1400 yesterday, and this thing's awesome...

the thing is, whenever i close the lid for an extended amount of time (like an hour +) the monitor doesn't turn back on, and i'd have to reset the entire laptop.

anyone know how to fix this?

it's a 14.1 inch Wide Screen XGA+ LCD Display with TrueLife™, if that means anything

im thinking what happends is the monitor shuts itself off.....ive experienced this on my inspiron so I just right clicked on the desktop, went to properties, then screen saver --> power......and set the same time for turn off monitor as it is for system stand bye (2 hours)

I never really shut this thing down anymore, only put it on standbye

Im not really sure if this is addressing the issue, just a simple way around it

I think it goes from just instant-return standby to a deeper standby after a while...

Does it turn back on when you press the power button, or do you have to do a hard reset?

Have you installed any new video drivers?
After I installed the 165.01 driver I had the exact same problem, updating to 163.67 fixed the issue.

When you open back the lcd lid again press ESC key, if nothing happens push the power button gently and it will return you to the last state you were in.

I've had this problem on my 6400.

I open the lid and it doesn't turn on. I then close the lid again and open it, and voila LCD turns on. Odd lol
