started experimenting this morning to get that sound coming crom mi xps m1710 fixed and this is what i came up with.
this helped for me : go to control panel - system - device manager
under bluetooth radios (my xps doesnt have a built in radio but still the option was there, strange but true) go to dell truemobile 355 or whatever it might be called on your laptop - go to properties - power management and uncheck "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" That made the noise disappear in my case
if you have any questions feel free to contact me
[email protected]
hope this helped
ps: flamenko is testing this as we speak and will pull it for the tweak thread if he's sure it works.

point is thought that you shouldnt have to disable the power management software.
If Dell fixes this with a BIOS update, that is a better solution. -
true, but still I think this is better than using 3rd party software because of the heat. with the fans not turning all the time (when using RMcpu they really start going crazy) battery life must be longer this way.
I'm sure a fixed bios will pop up somewhere, someday... -
Dells fix will be to encorporate disabling power management into the bios. there is no other solution found. This does not disable powermanagement as a whole...just a small piece which wouldnt reduce battery life as RMClock does....again...if it works.

Have you tried what is suggested?

***This is a completely pointless thread considering there is already another one which says that Dell is planning on releasing a BIOS update within the next week to fix the issue***
Yeah, try to check the sugested solution that might help you, before you start whining about things. -
I am only going by what I was told today by Dell after they had sent out a motherboard to try and fix the issue.
It seems that they may have had a breakthrough since last week.
I cant find the settings you are talking about, do you care to elaborate? -
First of all...its the first post.
Next. Dells only solution is to shutdown the laptop from entering low power of C3 state.
If they had the solution they would be taking a different stance as every laptop manufacturer is dying to find this solution.
ANy one person to figure it out would be a millionaire. -

I don't have a bluetooth radio option in my device manager. If you don't have bluetooth it shouldn't be there.
Herre, I bet if you looked in your system, you have a module in it..... -
Didn't order one thats for sure
thats just cool if I got one anyway
uhm if you don't have bluetooth there muse be some other devices that you can point to use the same settings, I'll look into it -
i have bluetooth but i don't have that option
edit: turn BT on before doing this , der
the constant whine is gone now, but the morse code still exists. i prefer rmclock
possible solution for the whining cpu
