Apparently the power button on my gf's laptop is busted and I'm out of town. Is there any way to power on the laptop without this button working? I read some studio laptops can use the media button, but I dont believe this laptop has that option.

On older Dell laptops I have found that if you remove the primary and CMOS batteries and let the laptop sit for a while, it will power on as soon as you connect it to AC power. Dunno if it applies to the 1749, but it's one thing you could try. You could also just briefly short the leads connected to the power button.

Getting her to disassemble the laptop with over the phone instruction. Slow going, but we'll get it. Once she figures out whether the wire is still attached, then I'll know what to do. Thanks for the info
