Hi, my problem is i have a 32 inch tv i want to use as an eternal display i have it hooked up through hdmi output on my laptop. Whenever the hdmi cable is pluged in it will use the tv as my primary display and i cannot get any thing on my laptop display even after the hdmi cable is unplugged ive tryed extended my desktop to the laptop but it will not allow me to set the resolution on the secound display only on the tv.
i tryed the display function key on the laptop but that does nothing.

i want to have it so my laptop is my primary display ( at 1440x900) and my tv set as an extension of my desktop at 1080p

    Im using windows vista

    i have a dell xps m1530

    thanks

Hm, that's odd. Have you tried booting the system up with the cable inserted? Do you have quickset installed? (it's not required, but makes things a little easier) Otherwise, I would just reinstall the video card driver and see if that fixes things.

Try right clicking on your desktop > nVidia Control Panel > Setup multiple displays > Use only one display > and select the display you would like to use as the laptop display. It might work, it might not. If you are having overscan issues on the TV as well try using your TV's remote and changing the format to unscaled or something else. Overscan means that the image is larger than the screen you see.

i do have quickset installed. whenever i go into the nvida control panel and set it to display on the laptop screen only it sets the tv to 800x600 and the laptop shows nothing. When i have the cable plugged in and reboot i just get a display on the tv. The only way to get my laptop display back is to reboot without the cable in... weird eh
