it doesn't lay flat on the rubber things on each corner
the middle of the notebook sticks out a little more than the rubber things.
by middle, i mean the ram cover, the edges stick out.
any one else have this problem?

Nope, mine seems to balance fine. Did you open up any of the bottom slots?

If it is really that noticable and bothersome, I think the dell warrently covers some kind of cosmetic issues

it is, it makes the laptop slide while typing as there's no friction
    pretty annoying

If you're talking about the little rubber nubs, I've heard before that they're not always seated correctly - can you move them at all? If so, you may just need to finagle them into the correct position.

...but if you're saying there is some defect, that is a different issue and something that you should talk to Dell about.

I believe I have the same problem over here. The bottom of the notebook where the Ram is does seem to be potruding slightly.. Luckily this Ram port has four little stand on it that are plastic. For me, these four legs and the other 4 rubber sides are what my Laptop sits on. Because of this it does not have much friction as syxbit said, but it is not that bad. Overall I think it had quite an incredible build. And I for one like the white edges.

Try taking the screws out of the ram cover, take it off, and when you put it back on it kind of "snaps" into place.. If you don't snap it all the way then it will protrude a little, I woud try that before going through the hassle of getting Dell to replace/fix it.
