I have a dell inspiron6000 that is about 3 and a half years old. I have been having trouble with the adapter for a couple months now and i would have to jiggle the connection piece until it was running on ac power again instead of battery. Well today my battery isn't charging any more and i am having more trouble than ever getting my laptop to run on ac power. It has to be in the exact right spot. The battery doesn't charge and i checked the back of the computer where the ac adapter connects and normally there are four prongs surrounding a central piece of metal where the adapter connects.
Now the bottom prong seems to be loose and is bent up touching the central prong and i'm guessing this has something to do with the increased difficulty for it to be run on ac power as well as the battery no longer charging.
My question is what should i do. Is this a problem that would be cheap to fix? I'm guessing not. If it is more than 100 dollars I would just as soon buy a new computer. If that is the case what should i buy? I mainly use my computer to play online poker and surf the web watch dvd's, and a small amount of gaming.

Are you talking about the prongs on the adapter? If you think the adapter is bad, you can easily get one on eBay for $20. Otherwise, it sounds like the connector to the motherboard is coming loose in which it would be soldered on. Unless you or someone you know can do this, it will cost more than $100.

There are a lot of very nice computers out now. It depends on which size you are looking for and the price you are willing to pay.
