Anyone had a problem when connecting to router/directly to cable modem the LED on the LAN (Broadcom 440X) card turns orange (not green). I can browse internet and ping my printer, but it won't find printer when I'm trying to install the driver.

It doesnt have to do with your lan card, but your windows configuration.

    What printer is it?

when you write a post please give details about your OS and working environment
try the following if you are using vista ......

    1. go to network and sharing center >> manage network connections (on left pane)

    2. right click your local area connection

    3.go to properties>>Internet protocol version 4>>properties

    4. under 'use the following DNS server address give your router's address (usually 192.168.1.1)

I'm running a fresh install of windows XP Home Edition. Nobody has mess around with it since it's been installed. The printer is all in one HP PSC2710. The other notebook has no problem seeing the printer. Also the LED on LAN is green not orange.
    Under Local Area Connection Properties:
    Obtain an IP address automatically
    Obtain DNS server adress automatically.

One thing I wanted to add. The driver automatically opens up ports in firewall. Though I've tried turning off firewall and as expected it made no difference.

    Thanks in advance.

I haven't. What should I do? Assign Router's IP address to DNS address in Properties?

    kuncheesh,
are you saying that once you assign router's IP address to DNS address in properties your LED turned green? I've tried that and it made no difference. LED is still orange (though it shows 100mb/s connection speed) and I still can not find my printer. Though I can ping it with no problem.
I've tried searching by IP address, host name and MAC address - no luck.

i didnt say that anu LED turned green...... my problem was the inability to access the shared printer on my XP desktop from the vista laptop. so i did two things
    1. installed link layer topology discoverer on the XP machine
    2. remaped the DNS ip

that solved the problem for me. i didnt notice the color on the LED (hope you are reffering to the LED on the ethernet port)

STOP obsessing about the color of your NIC's light. all it does it notify you of a connection, not whether it gets packet information. JUST STOP.
