I have clean installed x64 Vistas right after I got the laptop. All the drivers are running smooth....but the hw settings are misbehaving. Even with Dell QuickSet launched, when I set the display to a certain brightness level, once I close and reopen the lid, the brightness gets set to max again. The computer does not keep the settings.....

plus my touchpad is set that once mouse is connected, touchpad should be turned off. but once I reopen the lid, the touchpad gets turned on again.....

is anyone facing the same problems? what can I do to fix this?
    thanks for any help....!!

I'm pretty new at this, so I can't help, but I would really like to know as well since I'm planning on installing 64-bit vista once i get my lappy.

it does that for me, too. I have Vista 32-bit. I think it's a design feature! :p

I'm pretty sure there is a brightness level adjustment that can be made in the BIOS you might want to check out.

I have found the bios brightness settings, but even though, vista starts still in full brightness and then there is the reopened lid problem...
SOLUTION: just found what was the cause of the problem I thought that it might be set somewhere in vista....but couldnt find it before...
Control panel/Power Supply settings. then on the left is Brightness. There you will find a settings panel for brightness in each mode, AC and battery. once you set it up, thats the default brightness once vista starts or when you open the lid.... :-D
