i have been using wireless all the while, then my mobo have some problem so i got dell to replace it and the problem was solved. However, my lappie can receive the wireless signal but i just cant connect to my network. I install and reinstall all the drivers concerning it and it wasted me 4 hours or so. Then i couldnt wait any longer so i opened the back and i removed the wlan card and i put slot it into the slot to left of the WLAN slot. The right of the WLAN card is something WWAN FAN. Then i reboot, i can connect O_O. Weirdly. I tried slotting the wlan into the WLAN slot (the middle one) again and rebooted. Same thing, still cant connect.

Right now its in the left slot (internet working). SO i am asking if can i do this? I havent try the right slot, but will it work as well? I am worried if there's any side effect... Thx in advance.

Edit : My lappie is inspiron 1520 btw, if you guys need any more info tell me.

The labels "WWAN and WLAN" are there basically to indicate what the slots are for. You can plug your WLAN card toto either. It's like PCI/PCI-E slots on a Desktop computer, you can plug one card into any slot and it will work.

So YES you can do this and it should work without any side effects.

thx! Now i can sleep in peace XD. Since we are at it, mind explaining what does the WWAN and the other one, besides Wlan mean and do each particular slot have a more specificied role to play? Surely there's a reason why they are named differently.

edit : btw, the WIFI blue light when will light up when i turn the wifi catcher on,but it doesnt light up anymore although. Only the bluetooth one is lit up. Nothing wrong there?

WLAN = Wireless Local Area Network
WWAN = Wireless Wide Area Network

WLAN refers to an 802.11a/b/g/n wireless network while WWAN refers to something like a 3G Cellular card.

Since I'm not that familiar with your laptop, I'm not sure about the status lights so I can't comment.

i guess i am just paranoid, but will slotting the wlan card into a non wlan card slot(left one) cause wireless performance decrease or maybe the sdlot will not use the card to the its fullest ability what a wlan card is for? Afterall, while it will still work but those slots arent meant for the wlan card aint it?

Or all the 3 particular slots are just the same slot type (which will accept wlan card, 3g cellular etc) but they just put different name for us? If that is so, so will putting a 3g cellular card into the middle slot(wlan slot) work as well?

i understand its just labels but will the card work equally well in all 3 slots?

sorry for this torrent of questions but i am always paranoid when it comes to thing i am not sure.

They are all Mini PCI-E slots and are just labeled for convinience and because the antenna are designed to reach the slot labeled easiest.

ic, now that you say it, the antenna (its the wire aint it) couldnt reach the right slot. Thankfully it can reach left slot though. Thx.
