I just purchased a new Dell inspiron 15 3000 for my mom. Her Acer was beat beyond repair so I stepped up and got her a new one. I ordered This model.

    New Inspiron 15 3000 Laptop (dell.com)

It's good enough for what she needs and much better than the old acer she was using. Once I get it and get it setup for her I will give some initial quality and performance reviews.

I may order another for my son. His old S3 acer is getting long in the tooth too.

That hard-drive is sllloooowwwwww. My mother had an early 2015 iMac, and I just recently replaced the terrible 1tb 5400 RPM drive with a Crucial MX500. Her boot time went from 2 and a half minutes, to like 20ish seconds. I recommend you switch it out for someting else if its super slow for her.

I already know this. I will set it up. She never had an SSD device before so it may be fine. If not, I will pop in a 1tb SSD and an extra 8gb stick of ram if there is a slot for it.

Just got the computer today. I am going out on a limb and say within a month I will be installing a ssd. Ha ha. Initial impressions. Build quality is awesome for a 400 dollar box. I love the touchpad. If it's not glass its an amazing plastic. The color of the machine says black but its a really cool dark grey / blue color. I love the look. it has a load of ports. it's screen is nice and bright. I am a glossy screen lover, but this one is matte and nice and bright. I also love the dedicated calculator button. Cool nice touch. I have not tested battery life etc. It's still setting down with updates etc.

I will provide an update after I get all the software loaded and updated. But initial impressions are quite favorable for a budget machine. Great job Dell!

Well, after it all loaded and settled down, this machine is a winner. NOPE, it's not the fastest machine available. But for basic computing it will work just fine. Once all the updates are done, it's fast enough for most people. I am impressed for sure at this machine.

Sorry, I messed up my sentence. I meant to say this machine is a winner. Nope, its not the fastest machine. but it's great for basic computing. Opps.

If it were in my household, I would toss another 8gb of ram in it, a nvme ssd for OS and use the 1tb drive for storage and call er a day!
