i noticed one blue tooth mouse and in the description it says:

" - Use with non-BT equipped computers requires a USB Bluetooth adapter"

does this mean that since my laptop has BT, i can use ANY mouse that is bluetooth compatible WITHOUT the bluetooth reciever that they include ?

yes, some just supply the dongle because not everyone has it built in.

Yes. All it requires is the 'HID Profile'.

thanks for the help guys... ive been looking to buy a bluetooth mouse, but i want to get one from logitech and full sized. Can anyone recommend anything? Ive looked over their page 10 times and i hate their descriptions.. They never mention bluetooth.

All i want is a full sized mouse from logitech that has bluetooth. So any ideas? im looking at the G7 but i dont think it would work with my laptop. Would it ? (keep in mind i dont want to use any recievers, hence why i installed bluetooth on my laptop).

I don't know, but I kind of wished I didn't have BT now since BT takes so much power.. It really drains the battery. Logitech makes a USB wireless notebook mouse that looks like a nice size.. not too small. Its called the Nano I believe and it has a incredible small dongle that barely sticks out. It also has the forward/back keys which is nice. I don't believe Logitech makes a BT mouse with 5 button navigation. If I were to do it again I would go for the Nano for sure. If you don't have BT then you will still have to get a BT dongle. I think the nano would be a better choice at that point since its the smallest dongle in the world and you will save battery life as well.

Full sized? You might want to look at the MX610/620

Full sized and fits your hand nicely.

Does it really drain so much more than a USB Laser Mouse or a WiFi Laser mouse?

btw Im usin the microsoft 5000 bluetooth mouse, it's not full size but I like it alot because it's not too small either, 5 buttons and takes 2 AAA batteries

Bluetooth takes more since it constantly sends out a radio signal to any BT devices.. scanning for BT devices etc.. so its sending and receiving data within a 30 foot radius. A simple USB RF will be just receiving data from the mouse. BT should take more power. Also, in the case of many notebooks like my HP, I have to have wifi on as well for the BT to work.. so having wifi on as well takes alot of power. With a USB RF transmitter you could turn off WIFI and BT and get more battery life. I am not sure if the Dell WIFI is connected to the BT. If not, you may be able to still turn off WIFI and keep your BT mouse going.

I think the important thing is to have an extended battery if you order a notebook with BT. Both the Dell 1420 I briefly had and my current HP dv6500t with 6 cell barely get 2 hours with WIFI BT on.

    Rubbish.

Bluetooth only scans for devices as often as it is set up to do so. You can completely disable this process aswell, and only initiate transmissions to devices as and when you command, consequently leaving it on will use zero power. Which is exactly how I operate the standard on this notebook.

It's Wi-Fi that's the culprit in your analysis.

Does your notebook even have a built in BT modual? If not, either way, you are going to have to use a dongle on the USB slot. The only advantage to using a bluetooth mouse would be for the added range. They generally go up to 30 feet . But if you are planning on using this mouse near the notebook, it won't make a bit of difference in performance. In fact, many BT mice are reported to loose connection at times. I am thinking that VX nano I pointed out might actually perform better then some BT ones. I saw the VX nano at a office max the other day and its really not that small. I had to read the package to confirm it was a notebook mouse because I was not sure. If you have an office max near by you should go check it out. In fact, that store has an excellent assortment to look at. The prices are higher then online so you would be better off buying it online then at office max.

But the Nano with the worlds smallest dongle is big pro. Having the 5 button navigation is also nice. Do yourself a favor and check it out

Personally, I have the MS presenter mouse which has the added benefit of having media buttons on the bottom for powerpoint presentations and controlling media player etc.. it also has a laser pointer. For these features, the added range of BT is required. That mouse would be too small for you.. its almost too small for me.. its a bit ackward. But if you are going to use a wireless mouse sitting in front of your laptop and you don't have BT built in.. then I don't understand why BT is so important. For me, the only real reason I bought my BT mouse was to not have any dongle.

I hear you, the Vostro only has 4 USB ports and so that is why I decided to buy this microsoft Bluetooth Mouse.. works perfectly, haven't had to change batteries yet (had it for 1 month) and never lost the connection! It is a bit small though, but I couldn't find any big bt mice except for an ugly kensington one..

The Microsoft Mobile Memory 8000 is on my Christmas wish list. It's a bit pricey, but PC Connection offers it at a discount. It's not full-size (more like mid-size), but because of its shape, it nearly fills your hand. Nice thing is, the package it comes in allows you to place your hand over it so you can see how it fits.

I agree most dongles stick out too much. But the VX nano should not be an issue there.. Most people say they just leave it in and can put their notebooks in cases etc.. its not an issue.. Its a very small receiver. Also I read its advanced 2.4 Ghz as well.. it might actually have a decent range too. Logitech makes the full size VS too.. but it has a bigger dongle. A good thing is the dongle stores inside the mouse when your not using it.. that a big plus since you won't loose or misplace it that way. But I agree, as for BT mice they are not that great a selection. And for notebook size BT with 5 button navigation there are only two that I found.. The dell travel BT and MS 8000 presenter. And the dell travel mouse can only be purchased at the time you build a dell system.. They would not sell me one.. Maybe that changed but las t summer they would not sell it. I had one with my 1420 and had to return it with my returned system.. Its a nice size.. comfortable BT mouse.

i hear what you guys are saying .... but whats the point of having BT if i wont use it? why did i just pay 30$ for this module? so far the only two that seem decent are:

    http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouseandkeyboard/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=099

    and

    http://www.radtech.us/Products/BT600.aspx

But honestly i think its so damn pathetic that they dont have any decent normal sized bluetooth mice out there... Having a reciever is complete Bull$hit; why not just have a wire ? a reciever gives me even more clutter which is starting to piss me off. And i dont want those small mice because i do gaming...

I mean the criteria is not hard to fulfill at all:

    -Normal sized mouse
    -Bluetooth
-Ergonomic and decent design (not the ugly kensington or something of that sort)
    -Rechargable

    Thats too much to ask?

What the hell are these companies thinking? no one has filled this niche yet? the biggest dissapointment is LOGITECH. Leader of the industry my ass. They got some great mice out there (MX/VX) and none have the bluetooth option? screw you i dont want your RF.. Shove it.

I think the connection quality (or maybe bandwidth) is the reason they choose RF over bluetooth. I've been using a couple of (expensive) bluetooth mice with my Vostro 1400 for a few months now, and was wondering why I sucked so bad in Counterstrike and the like... Switching to a $20 Microsoft 1000 DPI corded mouse solved all my problems! ditto with my friends RF Logitech mouse.

lol chillax my friend, take it easy!

I can speak to you about the first one (MS 5000) since I own it. I do gaming (I'm not hardcore, but I do play Unreal Tournament, CSS and other stuff) and this mouse hasn't given me any problems yet.. it works on AAA batteries and for now (1 month using it maybe 3-4hrs a day) I haven't had to change them.. Now and then it might lag for a second, but it doesn't rreally bother me alot and I never noticed any lag during gameplay.
It is a bit small, but it's not that bad for gaming. The price isn't too high either. Why don't you check it out at a store, hold it in your hand and see if it's too small for you!

Overall I'm happy with it.. no bulky receivers, no gd wires and I have all 4 of my usb ports free :)

I agree Microsoft probably has the best BT mice and best drivers for Vista. My presenter 8000 has not lost connection yet. The Dell travel BT did a few times when I had it. The 5000 is the same as the 8000 in size.. I think it may be too small for the OP. The Dell Travel mouse 5 button is more ergonomic but its not laser and buggy driver support if you ask me.

To the OP I would get the MS 5000 over the other one linked. It has good vista support and at least it works decent enough. But I think the VX nano is more comfy. I like where the forward/back buttons are on the Nano.. there easier to access. The MS forward/back are awkward to use.. you have to move your hands back to hit them. Also to push the scroll button down to select is too stiff.. its a bit tricky to even do.. it does have tilting controls as well. The bottom line is that if I could go back in time, I would buy the nano and just turn the damn BT off. If I could go back further in time I would not have ordered BT at all. You can get the nano and pay the same as the MS and be more comfy or you can get the MS and use the BT you paid for.

There are no good options I know for a 5 button BT mouse. The most comfy is the Dell travel mouse and they probably won't even sell you one now that you have your system.. you have to include that in your configuration when you build a system.. But you can call them and see if that has changed.. But forget the Dell travel mouse for gaming.. its not laser and it will probably loose connection at times... but I still liked it.. its the most ergonomic 5 button BT mouse on the market.

Like some others here, I'm plenty disappointed with Logitech's lack of bluetooth mice. I thought the VX nano would be a decent solution at the cost of losing a USB port but that mouse feels awful to me - I'm used to gripping the mouse with my palm while the nano requires more of a finger grip. But their VX revolution notebook mouse feels almost perfect - but it has that big dongle sticking out. Maybe one of these days Logitech is going to get it right.

Giddyup! just picked up the MS Mobile Memory 8000 for 59.95 from BestBuy. That's $40 off, and the reviews I've seen have been very good.

Okay how does the Logitech MX900 look >? it has bluetooth but also the reciever... My question is (although i asked before, but just to make sure):

Would the mx900 work with my laptop directly since i have a BT module installed ? Can i unplug the reciever if im not charging the mouse and leave it somewhere? any input is GREATLY appreciated.

Yes it will work with your built in BT. Already confirmed here from users http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-MX900-Bluetooth-Cordless-Optical/dp/B0000CEPDF

My MS presenter BT also came with dongle.. I don't use it either.

By the way, where did you find a link to buy this? I don't think they make it anymore.. If you find one just make sure it has vista driver support.
