i'm customizing one of these laptops and i'm confused about the two options between getting a standard display and a slim and light display. what are the differences, besides the $150? if i choose the standard display, will the laptop be significantly thicker?
-
The Thin and Light LCD is much thinner and lighter. Also it uses less power netting you upwards of an hour more usage on a 6 cell battery. Battery life extension varies based on what your running.
It's one of those features that makes the 1330 so attractive. -
The regular screen is CCFL while the other is LED.
-
so it sounds like it's worth the $150. 1 more question, there are three types of batteries, 4,6 and 9 cells. i know that the 9 cell sticks out and raises the laptop, but does the 6 cell do the same? or will i have to result to a 4 cell so it doesn't stick out and raises the profile?
-
no, the 6 cell is flush. At least get a 6. I got a 9 and 6, but I take my laptop everywhere.
The 4 and 6 cell are the exact same size. The 9 cell sticks out. -
IMO I don't think the extra $150 is worth it. I have the CCFL screen and have absolutely no complaints about it. The differences are marginal and I'd rather buy an extra battery for the $150.

It's all about what you prefer. To the majority it is worth it. So a few it is not.
-
Remember, it used to cost $300 and most m1330 owners (from what I've seen) were willing to pay for the upgrade
-
exactly, I agree 110%
-
LED is the best choice as far as, mm everything.. I wish they have it on the 1530..
-
Yeah that would be pretty nice eh.
-
cool thanks guys

The m1530 is going to get an led option soon. Just wait.
It's like the higher resolution upgrade. It wasn't available at first but now it is. -
Have there actually been any comparative battery life tests performed? I have a hard time believing that the LED panel would improve battery life by 1 hour over CCFL. That would imply that a M1330 with LED used ~33% less power than a CCFL one. Assuming the display is responsible for ~50% of the power requirements, you're saying that LED is 66% more energy efficient than CCFL - which it isn't - at least in Dell's configuration.
