I've JUST read the excellent review of the dell d610 and the writer doesn't speak about heat and noise....so my question is:

does the dell d610 run hot and noisy with the fan ?

    THANKS....

I know a guy at the office who keeps his D610 on 24/7/365. Never has a problem. He restarts once every....3months or so. It doesn't get hot, is very quiet, and performs quite well.

A Dell Latitude is one of the most reliable computers I have ever seen. My dad has used one for almost four years now, and it is still going strong. Can't seem to kill it. BTW, it's a C610, the predecessor to the D600/D610.

    D610 is highly recommended

I keep mine on continuously as well. I have a D600 from work, and it gets hot on the left palmrest, but my D610 at home does NOT, although (like all laptops, I guess) it does get hot on the bottom. I've never actually noticed hearing the fan either, so I'd have to say it's not noisy at all. I have no complaints about it other than that I should have gotten the SXGA screen.

why do you speak about the sxga screen ? The regular one (XGA) is not good enough ?

and what about the battery.....is it really possible to run the computer during 4 hours with the primary cell ? If the answer is yes, I suppose the battery endurance can be very higH (maybe 8 hours) with an optionnal batery for the modular bay ?

Yeah, the main heat is on the bottom, but it doesn't get too bad. Noise hasn't been an issue for me.

Most people place their "laptop" on a desk or table for sustained work. No problems then.

the battery, in my experience, with mininmal acpi power restrictions and no cpu throlling, last for about 3 hours so yes 4 hours shouldn be hard if you'r word proccesing, ect
