my friend just got an e1505, hasn't reformatted or anything. just one issue i was wondering if anyone knew how to solve: the max resolution he can get 1280 by 800 and i know it goes higher than that (my e1405 as at 1440 by 900). how does one increase the resolution? thanks a lot.

Try reinstalling the video card driver. This can be downloaded from support.dell.com.

I'm not sure what happened, but the driver might have gotten damage or not been installed at all. Reinstalling it should fix it and allow the resolution to be adjusted.

Well, it depends on the screen type too. Does have actually have a screen that can support higher than 1280 x 800. The next jump up to the E1505 would most likely be 1680 x 1050.

Look on the invoice that came with the order. Next to screen does it say XGA or
SXGA+. I think he has an XGA screen which will support a max resolution of 1280 x 800. Otherwise the things you have tried should have worked. SXGA+ will support 1680 x 1050.

just because your 1405 is wxga+ has absolutely no bearing on what your friend's notebooks LCD resolution is.

if your friend has not reformatted and his max res is 1280x800, then his LCD is wxga. drivers won't help you.

And if he wants higher resolution, I think there is a certain period between purchase where you can send it back or something.....i don't know the details, I just know it has been discussed on the forums...

yeah, this is correct. i believe it's 21 days from the date the notebook is shipped. he can pay the difference and exchange for a higher res screen.
