Will the following HD work for my inspiron 1520? (Search it on newegg, apparently I can't post the URL, till I have 15 posts.)
Model
Brand SAMSUNG
Series Spinpoint M6
Model HM500LI
Performance
Interface SATA 3.0Gb/s
Capacity 500GB
Cache 8MB
Average Seek Time 12ms
Average Latency 5.6ms
RPM 5400 RPM
Physical Spec
Form Factor 2.5"
I'm concerned that it won't use it causes its SATA 3.0gb/s instead of 1.5 gb/s.

The SATA1 vs. SATA is no problem at all.
The Samsung HM500LI has high power consumption and slow acces times. Cheak Tomshardware.com for more details.
Better get WD5000BEVT or Seagate 5400.6 -
It will work, however. It has a 9.5mm height, which is what the 1520 supports.
The reason that PhilFlow recommends the WD5000BEVT is that is has two physical platters of 250 GB each, rather than three of 166 GB each on the Samsung. The more GB on each platter, the faster the drive is, all else equal. So the Western Digital is a faster 500 GB hard drive.
The Samsung one is $30 cheaper on Newegg this weekend, though - if capacity is your main concern, I'd say at $110 vs. $140 the Samsung is the better deal.
