can you haggle? anything in particular you can and can't haggle? another big question is can i have os, ram and antivirus taken off the order as i already have these and could save some money? it'd be nice to have these omitted.

I hear that you CAN haggle, although I have never done it. Sounds interesting though...do tell us the discount you get if you try it.

I doubt that you can get a Dell without the OS. That would really be great though.

Can you haggle? Yes you most certainly can. You just have to be very polite and diplomatic about it, not rude or obnoxious. I just haggled my way to a deal that was offered over a month ago. My "deal" arrives January 8th.

edited to add: I had to speak to three different reps to get the deal. Interestingly enough, it was the first rep who offered the best deal. Remember to jot down their name and extension number.

Also, from what I read on the dell forums (on dell.com) they use real time stock levels to determine some deals. The example they used is if they are running low on 40 GB hard drives that day (in the country they are made), customer support reps will get a message to start offering 60GB drives for only $10 more.

When I called they dropped the price a bit and gave me an extra year on the warranty.
