i performed the recommended wipe and reinstall that southern girl wrote about last night. everything seemed to go well except that i had to do the reinstall again because msconfig and other programs would now work but now they are fine. anyway after putting all of the newest drivers back on the machine that i had dl'ed from dell's website it seems like images are jaggy? i'm not sure if i missed something or if i'm being overly picky but it definitely seems like the images are more jaggy than before. i didn't reinstall the system utilities or the quick set from dell ( i have an xps m170 with 7800gtx using xp pro ) is there some util dell was using to maintain sharp images? not sure what to do here if anyone has any suggestions please respond.
o also i ran cleartype and am running in 96dpi mode with internet explorer image resize turned off
thank you for any help![]()

I am very interested in this too. I plan on doing the same thing with the same model. Wouldn't it be easier to just copy the "Dell" folder before you reformat?
By the way, what is "quick set?" -
quick set is the app that controls your lights and such it also controls other features. i'm not sure if they have in there something to modify the display or not though. this is what i'm wondering about. anyway my benchmark in 3d06 went from 3370 to 3500 so that was nice to see
after i reinstalled windows through the southern girl guide

hmm
yeah that would be worth a shot. sounds kinda weird though
i guess i'll give it a go you use an xps m170 drumfu? -
Good to know the 3dmarks. I was gonna do the same thing with benchmarking before and after a reinstall. Have you optimized your M170 by shuting down the processes on startup you don't need?

what screen do you have?
Like drumfu suggested I would check your natural resolution. If that doesn't fix it, you might need to adjust your DPI. If I remember correctly, some truelife users have complained about the images, and I think they ended up adjusting the DPI. -

If you are using IE for your browser there is a registry fix that I had to make on my dell inspiron 9400 to make the images display correctly. After the reg fix it worked fine.
The info about this was in one of the forums on this website. Any moderators know where:
This could be it here:

hmm i stumbled on a fix... for some reason before i did the wipe/reinstall.... wow that is a distracting avatar southerngirl..... the reg fix would work for me. now after the wipe reinstall the useHR line wasn't even there and after adding it it changed nothing however, i just stumbled on the fix...
changing the text size in IE from medium to large changed the image... this is what was doing it. is this weird? man why can't things just work like they're supposed to lol anyway thanks for all the supportXPS FTW
