I am considering purchasing the 8600 (esp. considering the great coupon deals that are coming up), and I am curious if any current owners have used it for music recording/editing using Pro Tools--or if you know anyone that has. I am planning on using my notebook for music recording/editing, some basic photo editing/web design work, and also for basic office functions. The speed capability of this computer is critical, but it sounds like it will do just fine--esp. with the 7200 rpm hard drive option. I am curious though, when you customize it, there is an option for a second hard drive of 40GB to be installed. Can anyone tell me the rpm of this one?

You never know what HD you'll get (4200 or 5400 rpm) until you get it. Most 40 GB hd are 5400 and most if not all 30 GB are 4200.
I got a 40 GB and luckily it was 5400.
