I just received my 630m today and was wondering if there was any way to improve the picture quality. The whites seem to be more blueish than white, as if the gamma levels are too high or something. I've taken a picture with my camera and although it doesn't show the issue anywhere near as obvious as it is in reality, you can get the idea.

Comparing it to my desktop lcd screen, you can see it doesn't show whites very well and the colours in general are somewhat washed out. I've turned the brightness all the way up when running it from the wall, and it isn't that. Is this just how laptop screens tend to be? This is my first so I'm not very familiar with them.

I don't know if you can do this on laptops but if you go into the color settings and turn blue down a bit that might help.

Sorry but I don't know of any other means to fix that, you've already tried fiddling with the brightness and contrast?

no worries, yea I've played with the brightness... that seems to be the only thing to change though.

I don't mind so much if it's supposed to be like that, I just wanted peace of mind or to know that I might have to return it if it is a problem.

It sounds like you got yours with a Samsung screen. The Samsung screens aren’t very good. What you are experiencing is very normal. The contrast and brightness isn't as good as the other Quanta screens, also used in the 630m and XPS M140.

oh ok, thanks. is there any way to tell for sure which screen it is apart from dismantling it, unless that is easy to do on laptop?
