extra dell OS cd = potential to install xp on a different computer?

They sent me an extra one. I got one with the computer 1705 but no driver cd. I complained and they sent me not only the driver cd but another xp installation cd. can I put this on a another computer?

RULE = 1 serial number = 1 computer or else you will be breaking the law.

you don't license CDs, you license software. if you have 1 license key, you are allowed to install on 1 computer.

And, as has been stated over and over (and over again): you can only use that copy of Windows on the laptop you purchased. Read all about it on the Dell website.

    wHATTT???

I installed my Dell recovery disk on my HP computer. It worked. I am much happier now. Just don't tell anyone. :p

Edit: You are not suppose to intstall your license on more than one computer without buying another... but who cares. I surely don't.

my salesperson left out the os cd i ordered on the order confirmantion he sent. I paid for the os cd, now that the order is in production, i don't want him to cancel the order again to add the cd he forgot and rusult in another delay. Should i wait to see what comes with the order or settle the lack of cd issue before it ships?

You can use the one reinstall CD on any number of Dell systems that have the same operating system. I had ordered three Dell E1505's back in July and i spoke with a Dell rep about them sending me out the reinstall CD's for each one and she just told me she would send me out one and i could use it on all three laptops so that's straight from the horses mouth.

True. I should rephrase: You can only use the license you have on the computer you purchased. You cannot use that license on any other system. That's an OEM rule.

Thanks for pointing out my error.

I got the OS cd after calling Dell and used it once to reformat my computer. Since i am wanting to format my computer again i went looking for it but cant find it.

I have a feeling my brother took it which is ok because he has his own code on his computer, but he says he didnt take it so i shelled out for a new one.

It is obviously coming brand new and with a new key code on it. But since im using it on the same computer i can just use my old code and save the new code incase i get another computer.... and dont want to go through the hassle of called Dell again, lol.

Thats legal, right?.... i mean since both codes will be mine and im not using them on more than two computers.

I'm not sure where you are getting the key code from since there isn't any key code on any of the reinstall OS CD's i've received. The key code is on the Microsoft COA multicolored label on the side or bottom of your Dell PC.

The site i got it from said it was a sealed box with the CD and there was a COA label on the CD case.....

Ive got my own code on the laptop anyway so if im not allowed to use the code on the CD case then its fine.
