Hi guys, I'm just curious to know that
if I order Office 2007 student and home edition from dell,
would I get a CD with serial key?
Also, can I use the CD to install it on my desktop
or is it only for the dell laptop that I'm getting?

I know there's OpenOffice but I'm thinking about getting
    Office 2007 while getting m1530.
    So anyone know ?

Yes you will get the CD and activation key.

    From the MS website.

Can I install Office Home and Student 2007 on more than one device?

Yes, if you have purchased a retail license of Office Home and Student 2007. The retail license terms permit installation and use of Office Home and Student 2007 on three devices. For more information about determining what type of license you have purchased and to obtain an overview of your licensing agreement, visit the Microsoft Software License Terms (MSLT) for the 2007 Microsoft Office system.

Yes, you get a CD along with the CD Case which has the Product Key at the back. I'm pretty sure you could install it on your desktop, I think there's a limit to 3 things you can install it on using one CD.

The copy you get from Dell is an OEM copy, NOT the retail copy. I believe this only comes with a single license, whereas retail copy you get 3 licenses. I could be wrong, but I'd head over to Microsoft's site and check out their licensing.

**Ah, found it on Microsoft's site:
Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 Retail License Terms allow for installation on three devices. OEM License Terms limit the installation to the device on which the software was pre-installed. Read the Microsoft Software License Terms (MSLT) for the 2007 Microsoft Office syste

If ordered with a Dell computer then yes that would be an OEM copy. If ordered separately from a Dell computer then it is a Retail copy.

So OP depending on how you plan on ordering this product you will receive an OEM or retail copy. The Retail copy can be installed on up to 3 computers, the OEM most likely has a more restrictive licensing model.

Correct - I was assuming the purchase would be with a new machine as well. I failed to look at the big picture :)
