i have a 120gb 5400rpm drive(came installed) and wanted to upgrade. my ? is if i use a 7200rpm will it affect the computer in any way besides using a little more power(cause freezes)?

your read/write speeds will be faster. Probably would not fix a freezing issue. that most likely is a software issue. My wifes e1505 has a 100gb 7.2 rpm. it runs well.

oh, then no I do not think so. the wife's laptop came w/ 7200 rpm drive stock in the same laptop. not sure how much benefit you actually get from the speed unless you are accessing large amounts of data. the cache on the drive may be more important but i do not know that for sure.

You will be fine. I'd be more concerned about the heat than the power use.
