hey all, I'm about to purchase a 1405 or 1505, wish I had ordered it yesterday, as the prices arent near as nice, I know that on the desktop versions of the 945 chipset, you dont have to have the same amount of ram in each channel, ie 512 in channel a, and 1 gig in channel b, I forget what they call it, but it supposedly works without a performance hitch, I was just wondering if this hold true for the moile version of the chipset, thanks

    It sure does.

2x identical ram size and speeds gives you dual channel with is more bandwith and technically better performance.

In general its better to run in dual channel unless you plan to upgrade later. I got 1x 1gb stick, so I can stick another 1gb in later.

I know how dual channel works, this is what I mean

The i945G also share some features with the higher-end i955X. Intel Flex Memory Technology is also present, and this feature allows different DDR2 capacities onboard, while still maintaining full dual-channel operation.

what I'm asking is this feature included in the mobile version of the chipset?

the 1405 or 1505 will accept either 533 or 677 mhz ram. if you mix, it'll run at the slower speed.

I'm aware of that of too, what I need to know is on either model, can I run 1, 1gig stick and 1 512, in dual channel, I know that it works on the desktop version, I cant find anything on the mobile, dells ram prices are crazy,I can order a 1 gig stick for under 90 bucks at zzf shipped, so I'll be either getting it with 1 or 2 512 sticks, 2 if thats part of the deal, 1 if not,
