Hey everyone I just got my laptop yesterday and I have been configing it to my liking. I notice that the underside get quite hot in the rear where the charge port is. I looked at my Hd temps and they seem to be 40-47 at most of the time. My cpu is somewhere around 35-45.

    My specs
    core duo 2050 1.60 ghz
    hitachi 60gig 5400rpm
    ati X1400

I read somewhere that the my Hd brand is know for being quite hot so what should i do? I was thinking about a cooling pad but im wondering if it will do much for the HD. I was also wondering at what temp should i be worried for my cup and HDD?

Btw i am using a fan control app and the NBH app

Well my cpu is around 28 and my hard drive is around 39. I do not have a graphic card so that contributes to the coolness. I would suggest using i8kfan and put the first fan on slow and the second fan on high as that will greatly cool down the notebook.

Yes, Dell has a reputation for overheating for no reason especially the charger. It is a problem Dell has never resolved yet.

do you own a dell. Dells do overheat but not the extent like hps. Yes dells do get hot but they can cool themselves down.

okay, you should have two fans since you have graphic card. A notebook cooler will help. But i normally take a book and fan and blow under the notebook to save money. I am not sure why it won't let you take control of your second fan. Sorry call dell and ask them tomorrow.

The xps systems in general run very hot and don't cool down till you turn it off

I own an M1710 and regularly game on it (Prey, NWN, mmorpgs...everything maxed). It gets warm, but not "hot". The cooling system and fan(s) layout seem to work exceptionally well. It does not get near as hot as my wife's inspiron 2650 just doing web surfing.

Add a Targus Chillpad (which I do) and it stays way cooler.

To answer OP, I know on the 1710, the Processor is on one side and the GPU is on the other. The GPU side does get warmer than the CPU side, but I would think that's to be expected, especially when gaming and when it's a 7900GTX.

Not really. The XPS M1710 I had ran very cool and quiet - however, the right bottom (where the CPU is) did get warm, as well as the middle. Not much to worry about though. I can see how adding a cooler would help a lot.
