First things first I have a thinkpad, and my friend has an inspiron laptop. I am trying to do a clean install of vista on my computer, and he has a disc he describes as "its an operating system dvd says it puts on windows vista home premium 32 bit but it says it should only be used to install on a dell pc" Now I have two questions
    1. will this disc be bound to dell computers?
    2. will I be able to use this for a clean install on a thinkpad? Keeping in mind I have my own product key
also if this is against ToS I apologize.

    1) That will most likely be bound to the notebook it was designed for. In the past, I was never even able to lift that restriction using n-lite, which tells me that they removed enough critical components to other systems to include all the extra bloat on that disk.

    2) That disk could also carry it's own product key...again, tied to Dell. I'd recommend purchasing an install DVD through Microsoft.
This should run you around $10-25. I had a link to that page, but Microsoft removed it probably because of SP1. You should be able to find it other places too.

I'd recommend installing 64-bit if you can as it gives you randomized memory use (Mac's virus protection), access over 3.5 gigs of memory...not really that big yet, and double hardware performance provided everything aligned is 64-bit. The operating system itself will respond much faster. Your key will work on both 32 and 64 bit, but you can only have one installed at a time legally.
