You do not need any of the applications Dell has preinstalled. I would highly suggest reformatting your hardrive.

Why do u want to use the non dell WinXP CD. The OS CD that comes with 700m is clean. All the crap from dell is on the other bunch of CD's that accompany it. Use the WinXP cd that came with ur 700m and u will have no crap on ur sweet 700m......

I believe a majority of people who know something about computers usually reformat their new laptop. I know I did with my 2 laptops - I simply cannot stand the bundled software and applications which come with Dells. Also I deleted Dells hidden 3GB partition. I recommend you to do the same as well.

Yes you can reformat and use the non-dell version. i just got mine and immediately did it, b/c i use xp pro and my 700m came with xp home. anyways, you will want to go to dell's website, get the new bios a01, plus you will need some of the drivers that windows XP does not pick up. The SD drive does not install unless you download the driver, also the newer drivers for the video, WLAN, etc which have been released in october so may or may not have been updated when you bought your computer. mine wasn't. hope that helps. i refomatted my hard drive and repartioned it using IBM utilities and then installed windows xp pro. but you can use the windows xp disc that came from dell which is not a restore disc, but the OS. There is another disc with programs, and a nother disc with drivers. good luck
