Thinking about getting one of these refurbed Inspiron 1420's from Dell Outlet

Any downsides to this idea? Price seems quite cheap at US$ 559.

If it's a configuration you are happy with, the main downside is that you will have to find somewhere else to spend the money you save.
There's really no downside - Dell outlet is a great place to shop. -
hmmm, the link I copy/pasted doesn't go back to where I thought it did...
It had Vista Home Premium (meh)
T5750 2GH C2D
3 GB RAM
250 GB hd (5400rpm)
WXGA screen
integrated graphics
Anything to watch out for with this being a refurb? -
So long as you aren't buying scratch and dent, you probably don't have anything to worry about.

That's a decent price for good specs.

ok, thanks for your input, everyone.

When, I was first looking I was checking out the 1420! It is a nice, solid notebook!
Good luck!

I did! Chose the slowest delivery option, cuz I'm cheap (and hence, the refurb), and it's just a replacement for my wife's falling apart but still semi-usable Acer Aspire.
-
The slowest delivery option is only 2-3 days. I ordered on friday and got on monday.
The 1420 is a great laptop.
Although when I got mine I spent 20 minutes trying to figure out how to operate the latch for the screen ... then I found out there was none. -

I'm sure she will really enjoy it!

Well, it arrived today, much quicker than anticipated!
I really like the size, 14.1" is perfect imho.
No dents, no scratches, everything looks good. Screen is nice, keyboard and trackpad are decent. WiFi works fine. If there's any bloatware in there, it hasn't jumped out at me (I've only turned it on, created a user account, and hit windows update so far -- had to get back to work).
All in all, no complaints! -
Glad it's all working out well for you!!
I'm sure your wife will enjoy it very much!
