I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop. I purchased an OEM system builder Pack Microsoft Win Home Prem 7-64 bit English disk that won't install on my computer. I am assuming my laptop is 32 bit, not 64 bit. Is there a way around this? I now have the disk for sale on Ebay but would like to be able to figure out how to use it either on my laptop or on my HP desktop. Any ideas out there short of selling the disk? I am quite the newbie here but am looking for ideas. Thanks in advance.

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
Pretty much every processor offered with the 1520 should have been 64bit capable. Where does the install fail? Technically, you're not supposed to be using the OEM version in a situation like this; Microsoft might actually be enforcing it for a change...

You may have to format your hard disk before installing the OEM version. If our OEM Win 7 sees a version of windows already existing on your HDD, it may not install. This is just a thought. I am not sure about it.

I guess I did not know what I was actually doing when I ordered that version from New Egg. When I insert the cd or restart my machine with the cd in, I receive the message that the cd is not compatible with my system and that I should use a cd that is. I imagined this to be an easy process of converting to Windows 7 but now I'm stuck with the cd and actually trying to sell it on Ebay. That's what you get for having a limited knowledge in this area.

Yeah.
That's what geeks like us are for. Making sure you get the right disk next time.
