hey all. based on what ive been reading in these forums im pretty sure im going to get the m1210. i just have a couple last minute questions.

i actually customized it and everything on the site and added it to my cart. the only reason i am waiting to buy it is to see if any coupons come out to make the price a little more reasonable for me.

    anyway, here are the specs:
    Intel® Core™ Duo proc T2400 (1.83GHz/667MHz/2 X 1MB L2 Cache)
Genuine Windows® XP Media Center Edition 2005
    1 GB memory
    gma 950
    100 gb 5400 rpm
    8x cd/dvd burner
    4 year warranty
    total (with discount): $1742

i was wondering whether this would be fine to suite my needs-im basically going to be your regular college student using word, downloading music, watching movies, burning cds/dvds.

also, should i just order the m1210 now? or wait and see if any more special deals come out? (i need to order it by at least mid august cause im going away early september)

get the exact same thing on eBay (new, sealed) for two or three hundred dollars less. And -- will you acutally use a 4 year warranty? I personally get rid of notebooks every year or so. Maybe I am just tech crazy.

Make sure that if you are college student (like me) you go through your university's EPP site to get a 12%. Probably thats why you have a 4 year warranty...

nice machine. Hopefully you have an external monitor or something, because if its your only computer, long papers may be tedious with a 12 inch screen,. :/

A final word on this -

The m1210 has a 'full' sized keyboard. If its too cramped, you can plug in a USB keyboard for long papers. Better to get a smaller notebook and have periphrials at home/dorm than a huge e1505 to lug around.

Also, try to get a 7200rpm hard drive. You will really feel a difference with bootup, etc.

I personally would wait another 2-3 weeks before ordering this machine. The back to school computer season is starting soon (has started?). And it is pretty cutthroat so I would expect dell to some out with some kind of xps discount.

    happy hunting

Sureshot is right. Plus, there is the prospect of Core 2 Duo on a m1210! (~drool)
