Are you reinstalling Vista on your 1330? From what I understand, you don't need to manually install the AHCI drivers prior to installing Vista (according to a dell tech support guy, Vista automatically installs them for you).

I asked him this question because I did a clean install of Vista on my 1330 and did NOT install the AHCI drivers first and the entire install process went fine. But after reading a few posts, I was wondering why everyone was doing this initial step. It seems to only apply (again, according to the tech guy) when you install XP on a Vista machine.

I could be completely wrong... maybe some of the more technically gifted members on this forum can enlighten us here.

Yeah, you don't need anything special if you're installing Vista.

With XP you would need it.

I thought you needed the drivers if you were using a Vista DVD that wasn't from Dell.

AHCI (aka SATA) driver is for XP as XP doesn't recognize SATA hard disks. Vista has it integrated so you don't need it. ;)
