I recently formatted my E1505 (was running XP MCE) and installed Vista Ultimate. Last time I formatted and reinstalled Windows XP I had to "repair" MediaDirect with a file that was burned to a CD and boot from that CD to repair it. I'm pretty sure I have MediaDirect version 2, but the only thing you can download from Dell's website in the Vista drivers section is for MediaDirect version 3. So I just tried repairing it the same way I did before but when I tried to run MD I got the BSOD. Is there a way to get MD up and running again and how do I go about doing it if I can?

you will have to call dell and have them ship you the CD for vista. they should do it for free, but im not sure. im sure i could probably talk them into it but it would take some really nice pissed off acting. vista only supports MDv3, MDv2 is what you have because thats for XP.

personally, i hate media direct, i'd rather use windows media player. im trying to remap my MD key to just be another power button, and later i will try to map it to boot into linux or something instead.

Ok, thanks. I hardly ever use MD but I figured I'd leave it on the hard drive when I formatted and see if I could still repair it. I may give Dell a call and have them send me the CD.

So you have to format your entire hard drive and also reinstall Vista in the process to install MD3, is that right? I left the previous partition that was used for MD2 alone when I formatted and installed Vista if that helps at all.

No, I couldn't ever start MD from within Windows, when I had XP the MD button started Windows Media Center since I had WinXP MCE 05. Now the button does nothing when I am in Vista.
